Hearts and Peonies

This Valentine's Day I decided to make Peony Cupcakes and Heart Cookies.  I loosely mixed the colour into the buttercream to achieve a more natural colouring to the flowers.  The Heart Cookies were made from my Melt in Your Mouth Shortbread cookies and then decorated with royal icing.  I love how both of these turned out! Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Wedding Cupcakes and Cake

Back in the summer I was asked to make wedding cupcakes along with a small cutting cake.  The bride's uncle made a lovely cupcake stand that complimented the cake and cupcakes so well.  The cupcakes were Vanilla with Blueberry/Raspberry Buttercream and Chocolate with Chocolate Buttercream.  The cutting cake was a Chocolate cake filled with Milk Chocolate Ganache.  To keep it simple and elegant, we went with a ribbon Vanilla Buttercream design for the cutting cake.  Beautiful photographs provided by Cara Chapman and Cecilia May. Congratulations Matt & Lindsay!

Lego Star Wars

My brother turned the big 4-0 this year and what better way to celebrate than with a surprise party!  For the party, I was responsible for the cake and cupcake toppers.  For the cake, I decided to combine two of my brother's favourite things for the design - Lego and Star Wars.  All Lego Star Wars minifigures were sculpted out of modeling chocolate.  The Millennium Falcon was made out of fondant with a silicone mould.  I wanted the cake to taste like Tiramisu so I layered coffee flavoured cake with cocoa dusted mascarpone buttercream.  For the cupcake toppers, I made chocolate covered apple cider caramels.

I was asked to make a celebration cake and cupcakes for a 40th wedding anniversary.  I based the design of the cake on different design elements of the cupcakes to try to tie it all together.  The cake was a Lemon Poppy Seed cake with Lemon Buttercream and the cupcakes were Classic Vanilla with Chocolate, Mocha, and Vanilla Buttercream. Happy 40th Anniversary!

University of Guelph Cupcakes

I was asked to make farewell University of Guelph cupcakes.  I wanted to create a mix of designs and decided on simple Thank You plaques, Begging Bear sculptures and Old Jeremiah Cannons. The Begging Bear is a 7½-foot-tall sculpture that has become a beloved icon to not only University of Guelph student, but also to the residents of Guelph. The bear can often be found decorated or dressed up, making it a must-see for passersby on Gordon Street. The cannon, named “Old Jeremiah”, is a British naval gun, rumoured to have been used in the War of 1812.  It is a long-standing Guelph

St. Patrick’s Day Cupcakes

2015-03-17T21:11:44-05:00March 17th, 2015|Cupcakes|0 Comments

I wanted to make some St. Patrick's Day themed treats for Elliott's daycare party and decided to make these pots of gold chocolate cupcakes.  To add an element of fun, I added leprechaun legs and had them sticking out as if the leprechaun had jumped into the pot of gold.  The leprechaun legs were sculpted out of modelling chocolate and the gold was made by dusting course sanding sugar and yellow edible confetti with gold dust. Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!
