Smurf the whole day long.

One of the many characters Elliott is into these days is Smurfs.  In particular – Gargamel.  He loves Gargamel!  When I asked him what kind of birthday cake he wanted, his reply was “Smurfs cake”.  There was no mention of Gargamel, but I thought he’d love it if I could include his favourite character from the series into the cake!  I came up with a 2 tiered cake where the top tier was in the shape of a smurf mushroom house.  I sculpted Gargamel’s head and a smurf figurine from modeling chocolate.  Gargamel’s body and the mushroom top were made out of Rice Krispie Treats and then covered with fondant.  All other decorations were made from fondant.  The top tier was a Vegetarian Chocolate Cake, while the bottom was a Vanilla Bean Cake.  Both tiers were iced with Salted Caramel Buttercream.
