St. Patrick’s Day Cupcakes

2015-03-17T21:11:44-05:00March 17th, 2015|Cupcakes|0 Comments

I wanted to make some St. Patrick's Day themed treats for Elliott's daycare party and decided to make these pots of gold chocolate cupcakes.  To add an element of fun, I added leprechaun legs and had them sticking out as if the leprechaun had jumped into the pot of gold.  The leprechaun legs were sculpted out of modelling chocolate and the gold was made by dusting course sanding sugar and yellow edible confetti with gold dust. Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!

Spiderman

Spiderman, Spiderman Does whatever a spider can Spins a web any size Catches thieves just like flies Look out, here comes the Spiderman I was asked to make a Spiderman cake for a little girl turning 4.  I love that she asked for a superhero cake - who says a girl can't have a superhero cake?  I decided to try to paint the webbing on Spiderman's face instead of piping them with royal icing or using fondant.  I actually really like how it turned out.  I think the painted method makes for cleaner looking webbing.  This cake is a Classic Vanilla cake

Painted Roses

2015-02-25T00:33:33-05:00February 25th, 2015|Cakes|0 Comments

Elliott loves going to daycare - and with good reason: his daycare providers are absolutely amazing.  They take such great care of all the children and go out of their way to make everyday fun.  One of the daycare providers is celebrating her birthday so I thought it would be nice to make her a birthday cake. One of the nice things of making non-commissioned cakes is that I get a chance to try out new techniques.  I wanted the cake to have a vintage pretty vibe and thought painted roses would accomplish that nicely.  Painting on cakes is not something I normally do.

A Very Vader Valentine’s Day

I found cute Star Wars themed Valentine cards online and thought they would make great cookies for Elliott's daycare's Valentine's day party.  I decided to make Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Jabba the Hutt, and Han Solo cookies.  I also made some smaller Death Star and heart cookies. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Whimsical Drippy Icing Cake

2015-01-24T20:10:10-05:00January 24th, 2015|Cakes|0 Comments

I was asked to make a cake for a 50th surprise birthday party.  The guest of honour and her husband have the cutest little Boston Terrier named Daisy.  I thought something fun and colourful would go well with the surprise party and so, suggested a whimsical cake design.  To personalize the design, I sculpted a Daisy figurine complete with party hat and party blower.  The top tier is a Classic Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream.  The bottom tier is a Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Buttercream.  Daisy is sculpted out of modeling chocolate. Happy Surprise 50th Birthday Jennifer!

Nutcracker Cookies

One of my most favourite things to do for Christmas is to make decorated shortbread.  They make wonderful and delicious treats for people of all ages!  I decided to make Nutcracker shortbread cookies for everyone at Elliott's Daycare.  I stuck to 3 accent colours to keep a theme but also added sanding sugars and different designs to keep the set interesting. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Madagascar Cakes

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love making children's birthday cakes.  They are almost always bursting with colours - and these cakes were no exception!  I was asked to make two Madagascar 3 themed cakes for a little girl turning 3 - A circus themed cake and a shipping crate themed cake. The circus themed cake had both vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream.  The shipping crate cake was an eggless chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.

Elliott loves Sesame Street.  If he hears the opening song, he will stop whatever he is doing, and dance.  I found these amazing designs of zombie Sesame Street characters and thought they would make perfect Halloween cookies for Elliott's Halloween Party at his daycare.  I made zombie Big Birds, zombie Cookie Monsters, zombie Grovers, and zombie Elmos along with some brain cookies :) Happy Halloween Everyone!

Hello Kitty

2014-10-25T21:32:15-05:00October 25th, 2014|Cakes|0 Comments

My brother's niece, Lillian, celebrated her 5th Birthday this weekend.  I was fully expecting another Frozen themed cake since her cousin, Leah (my niece), share the same interests.  I was pleasantly surprised when a Hello Kitty themed was requested because #1 I have not done a Hello Kitty themed cake before and #2 Who doesn't like Hello Kitty?!  Hello Kitty is sculpted out of fondant.  The two tiered cake consisted of two cake flavours.  The top tier is a vanilla custard cake with raspberry buttercream and the bottom tier is a chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream. Happy 5th Birthday Lillian!
