Underwater Adventure

2017-07-15T19:29:48-05:00July 15th, 2017|Cakes|0 Comments

Today we celebrated another one of Kingston's swimming buddies' 1st Birthday!  The theme of the party was an Underwater Adventure.  Like the Sheep cake, we kept the cake artificial dye-free.  Hunter's mom wanted a lot of different texture in the design and I think we successfully accomplished this with the wave texture on top, all the different fondant corals along the side, and the golden sugar sand!  This cake had alternating Vanilla and Chocolate cake with Cookies & Cream buttercream. Happy 1st Birthday Hunter!

Sheep

Kingston met a bunch of little friends during our diaper fit classes.  We like to call them his swimming buddies!  This sheep cake was made for one them celebrating her 1st birthday.  Since babies can have a tendency to react to artificial dyes, natural colourants were used instead.  The coconut "grass" was dyed with chlorophyll drops, the flowers and bow were dyed with beet powder, and the sheep's head was dyed with black cocoa powder.  The bottom tier had alternating Vanilla and Chocolate cake with Blueberry buttercream while the sheep was Vanilla cake with Blueberry buttercream. Happy 1st Birthday Evelyn!

Whales

How time flies! I can't believe Kingston is 1 year old already! From the moment I found out that I was pregnant with another boy, I knew I wanted to decorate his nursery in a whale theme. When it was time to come up with a theme for his first birthday, I thought the whales theme would fit perfectly!  I started with his birthday invitation first.  I created the above HTML5 invitation in Tumult Hype3. I decided to match the cake to the invitation design.  I'm so happy with how the cake turned out!  I had the waves pattern printed on edible icing

Smurfs

La la la-la la la, Sing a happy song. La la la-la la la, Smurf the whole day long. One of the many characters Elliott is into these days is Smurfs.  In particular - Gargamel.  He loves Gargamel!  When I asked him what kind of birthday cake he wanted, his reply was "Smurfs cake".  There was no mention of Gargamel, but I thought he'd love it if I could include his favourite character from the series into the cake!  I came up with a 2 tiered cake where the top tier was in the shape of a smurf mushroom house.  I sculpted

Fishing Lure Font

These cookies were made for Elliott's Daycare teacher's husband.  He's recently started taking their son fishing so we thought a fishing themed cookie set of his name would be great for his birthday.  I decided to go with a variety of fishing lures in the shape of each letter.  Love the way they turned out! Happy Birthday Derrick!

Dirty 30!

My co-worker's daughter is turning dirty 30!  She was planning a martini themed party and asked me to make cookies and a cake.  I decided to decorate the cookies to look like drawn images of cocktails.  I also made smaller round scalloped cookies.  For the cake, I kept with the theme and put the green martini on top. Happy 30th Birthday Sarah!

Emojis are everywhere these days.  I see dolls, shirts, pillows ... there's even a movie coming out soon.  So I was not surprised when I was asked to make an emoji cake!  This cake was a Chocolate Chunk cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Happy 8th Birthday Bella!

Peter Rabbit

One of my favourite books as a child was The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.  I think what I loved most was the beautiful water colour illustrations.  So when I was asked to make a Peter Rabbit themed birthday cake for a little girl's birthday, I was delighted to say the least!  The Peter Rabbit figurine topper was sculpted from modelling chocolate while all other decorations were made from fondant.  The top tier of the cake was a Chocolate Cake and the bottom tier was a Vanilla Bean Cake.  Both tiers were iced with a Classic Vanilla Buttercream. Happy Birthday Alexa!
