Cookie Monster & Elmo

My cousin's daughter is absolutely in love with all things Sesame Street.  In particular - Elmo.  So for her 1st Birthday, I made her a Sesame Street cake complete with figurine toppers of Cookie Monster, Elmo, and the birthday girl in her birthday party outfit!  All figurines were sculpted out of modelling chocolate.  The top tier was a Classic Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream (her big brother's favourite!).  The bottom tier was a Classic Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Buttercream and Mascarpone Buttercream.  Since the birthday girl is allergic to eggs, I made her some egg-less cupcakes with egg-less buttercream as well. Happy 1st

Lego Star Wars

My brother turned the big 4-0 this year and what better way to celebrate than with a surprise party!  For the party, I was responsible for the cake and cupcake toppers.  For the cake, I decided to combine two of my brother's favourite things for the design - Lego and Star Wars.  All Lego Star Wars minifigures were sculpted out of modeling chocolate.  The Millennium Falcon was made out of fondant with a silicone mould.  I wanted the cake to taste like Tiramisu so I layered coffee flavoured cake with cocoa dusted mascarpone buttercream.  For the cupcake toppers, I made chocolate covered apple cider caramels.

Henna-Mehndi

A friend of mine recently shared the good news that her son had gotten engaged!  She wanted to surprise the lovely couple with an engagement cake this Thanksgiving weekend and asked if I could make it in a Hindu inspired design.  I decided to make a single tier version of the Henna-Mehndi cake from last year.  The Henna design was painted free-hand on the cake with cocoa butter.  The cake had alternating layers of Classic Vanilla Cake and Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Congratulations Eric & Amber!

My friend's daughter loves Bert & Ernie from Sesame Street.  So, for her first birthday, I made her a pretty yellow and pink cake with Bert & Ernie figurines.  I also made a little figurine of the birthday girl in her beautiful yellow ruffle romper birthday outfit!  All figurines are sculpted out of modeling chocolate.  The cake is a Classic Chocolate cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Happy Birthday Olivia!

My Little Pony – Princess Celestia and Pinkie Pie

Since my niece's birthdays are a month apart, this year, it was decided that they would have a joint birthday party.  Having a joint birthday party doesn't mean you have to share your cake too though!  I decided to make 2 separate cakes for the girls so that they would have something of their own for the day. My nieces love My Little Pony.  Leah loves all the Princess Ponies, while Norah's favourite is Pinkie Pie.  I went with Princess Celestia for Leah's cake and Pinkie Pie for Norah.  Both ponies are sculpted out of modeling chocolate.  Leah's cake is a Classic Chocolate

I was asked to make a celebration cake and cupcakes for a 40th wedding anniversary.  I based the design of the cake on different design elements of the cupcakes to try to tie it all together.  The cake was a Lemon Poppy Seed cake with Lemon Buttercream and the cupcakes were Classic Vanilla with Chocolate, Mocha, and Vanilla Buttercream. Happy 40th Anniversary!

My Little Pony, My Little Pony Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahhh... I loved My Little Pony as a little girl and was so happy to see them make a come back!  I find the next generation ponies much cuter with their big anime eyes!  I was asked to make a cake and some cookies for a My Little Pony/Skylanders party.  For the My Little Pony theme, I made a cake with a Rainbow Dash topper.  Rainbow Dash was sculpted out of modelling chocolate as was the rainbow.  The clouds are made out of fondant.  The cake is a Classic Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream

Blush Metallic Elephants

2015-06-20T13:40:37-05:00June 20th, 2015|Cakes|0 Comments

I was asked to make a small wedding cake for this weekend.  The bride wanted to incorporate design details from previous cakes into one design.  She absolutely loved the elephants from the Henna-Mehndi cake except she wanted to omit the Indian theme, have them painted a blush metallic, and have their initals on each elephant.  She also loved the painted roses design but wanted the colours to be more muted so that it looked like a water colour painting. The elephants were sculpted out of polymer clay so that they can last as a keepsake.  The cake flavour was a Classic Chocolate

Finding Nemo Cake and Cookies

Elliott loves the movie Finding Nemo.  He's watched it so many times that he knows the movie off by heart so it was a given that his 3rd birthday party would be Finding Nemo themed.  For the cake, I wanted to make an under the sea scene with some characters from the movie as toppers.  I decided on Nemo, Dory, and Pearl for the toppers and sculpted them out of modelling chocolate.  The top tier was a vegetarian chocolate cake with vegetarian chocolate buttercream.  I also added chocolate crispy pearls to the buttercream for an added crunchy surprise!  The bottom tier was a classic vanilla cake

Fantasy Flower Cake

2015-05-11T07:57:36-05:00May 11th, 2015|Cakes|0 Comments

Elliott's daycare has two wonderful ladies who look after the children.  Today is one of their birthdays and so I decided to make a cake for her.  It's the least I can do as a Thank You for looking after Elliott 5 days a week!  The fantasy flower on the cake was originally supposed to be a Magnolia, but I ended up adding more petals because I thought it looked a little sparse.  The cake is a Classic Chocolate Cake with Blackberry buttercream. Happy Birthday Dyann!
