Owl Baby Shower
I was asked to make an owl themed baby shower cake for this weekend. I had a lot of fun making this cake and love the way it turned out. The cake is a Classic Chocolate cake with Vanilla buttercream.

I was asked to make a Métis themed birthday cake for a renowned Métis artist, scholar and community activist. Beading, Métis sash and Fiddles are all things that are important to her and so, were incorporated into the design of the cake. The Métis beading pattern piped on the side of the cake was inspired by artwork done by Christi Belcourt (another renowned Métis artist!). The Fiddle and sash were sculpted out of modelling chocolate. The cake had alternating Classic Vanilla cake and Classic Chocolate cake with Hazelnut Praline buttercream, Blackberry buttercream, and Chocolate buttercream. Happy Birthday Maria!
We hosted a baby shower for friends this weekend. The theme of the party was "Bun in the Oven" so I made a Bun in the Oven cake complete with an oven topper and some baby onesie and bun cookies. The oven topper was sculpted out of modelling chocolate. The cake had alternating Classic Vanilla cake and Classic Chocolate cake with Hazelnut Praline buttercream, Blackberry buttercream, and Chocolate buttercream. Congratulations Bryan and Sarah!
Another Frozen cake! I was asked to make this Frozen themed cake with a set of figurines for a girl turning 6 years old. The backdrop was made with modeling chocolate and then painted with teal lustre dust. The trees are sugar cones covered in fondant. The cake was a Classic Vanilla Cake with Blackberry Buttercream. Happy 6th Birthday Bella!
With 2 Easter dinners to attend, I needed 2 Easter cakes. I made both cakes in the same flavour but decorated them differently. One was simply covered with blackberry buttercream and topped with a nest of 3 speckled eggs. The other was also covered in blackberry buttercream, however the sides were decorated with candy coated eggs. Cakes have alternating chocolate and vanilla cake layers with hazelnut, blackberry, and chocolate buttercream in between.
This pretty cake was made for a little girl turning one. Her birthday party theme included the colours pink and purple with butterflies. All cake decorations were made with fondant. Happy 1st Birthday Alexa!
Spiderman, Spiderman Does whatever a spider can Spins a web any size Catches thieves just like flies Look out, here comes the Spiderman I was asked to make a Spiderman cake for a little girl turning 4. I love that she asked for a superhero cake - who says a girl can't have a superhero cake? I decided to try to paint the webbing on Spiderman's face instead of piping them with royal icing or using fondant. I actually really like how it turned out. I think the painted method makes for cleaner looking webbing. This cake is a Classic Vanilla cake
Elliott loves going to daycare - and with good reason: his daycare providers are absolutely amazing. They take such great care of all the children and go out of their way to make everyday fun. One of the daycare providers is celebrating her birthday so I thought it would be nice to make her a birthday cake. One of the nice things of making non-commissioned cakes is that I get a chance to try out new techniques. I wanted the cake to have a vintage pretty vibe and thought painted roses would accomplish that nicely. Painting on cakes is not something I normally do.
I was asked to make a cake for a 50th surprise birthday party. The guest of honour and her husband have the cutest little Boston Terrier named Daisy. I thought something fun and colourful would go well with the surprise party and so, suggested a whimsical cake design. To personalize the design, I sculpted a Daisy figurine complete with party hat and party blower. The top tier is a Classic Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream. The bottom tier is a Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Buttercream. Daisy is sculpted out of modeling chocolate. Happy Surprise 50th Birthday Jennifer!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love making children's birthday cakes. They are almost always bursting with colours - and these cakes were no exception! I was asked to make two Madagascar 3 themed cakes for a little girl turning 3 - A circus themed cake and a shipping crate themed cake. The circus themed cake had both vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream. The shipping crate cake was an eggless chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.
