A friend of ours was turning the big 4-0.  His parents had asked us to help arrange a surprise party for him.  Everyone knows a birthday party is not complete without a cake! Since he is a big bird enthusiast, I thought a cake in the shape of an owl would be the perfect design.  I sculpted a 5″ round cake in the shape of an owl, while the tree stump was a 6″ round cake.  Both cakes were Classic Chocolate Cake with Strawberry Buttercream.  All decorations are made of fondant.
